MEN’S HEALTH
Men all around the globe live 5 years less than women. Men are often less willing to seek help and are more likely to keep putting off seeing a health specialist which can lead to a major health crisis. Delaying physiotherapy help with pelvic floor problems is a common problem for many men as it is a somewhat ‘taboo’ topic to discuss. Yet managing your pelvic health is important to maintaining your quality of life. Men can see a physiotherapist to assist in their health for a number of reasons other than pelvic health. These include:
Managing and preventing heart disease – Ischaemic heart disease is the leading cause of death in men. Physiotherapists play a vital role giving advice and developing exercise programs to help manage the risks associated with cardiac disease*.
Rehabilitation after transport accidents – Currently, the number of men who have injuries involving motor vehicles or other forms of transport is significantly higher than women – 9.6 compared to 3.2 in women. It is important men are proactive in seeking rehabilitation through physiotherapy after a transport accident to prevent short and long-term health impacts.Manual Handling – Manual handling is a big part of many male-dominated occupations. Your physio can assist men (and women) to learn the correct manual handling techniques for tradies, labourers and drivers to prevent workplace injuries.
