Are you looking for ways to care for your painful lower back?
Approximately one-third of Australians will experience lower back pain at some point in their life. It often resolves with care and attention within a few weeks. However, sometimes it takes longer and then keeps coming back for ‘no apparent reason’.
The truth is – there is a reason but it isn’t always what you would expect. Many people associate lower back pain as being caused by lifting heavy objects. That is the case for some people but for most, there are two other reasonable and more likely explanations.
- Prolonged sitting. When we sit for more than 60% of our waking hours (driving, computer, watching TV and Netflix, eating dinner – the list goes on!) we increase our risk of lower back pain and developing a chronic disease such as diabetes.
- Repeated bending- picking up the kids’ toys from the floor, vacuuming, putting on your shoes feeding the cat – again the list is endless.
Both these activities are silent culprits in the lower back industry.
So when you start experiencing that twinge in the lower back – think of what you have been doing over the past few days and try to work out what it may have been – and more importantly what you can do to change and prevent further twinges.
