And we know what that means, winter sports! Basketball, football, netball, soccer and hockey just to name a few. In the colder weather you are more likely to sustain an injury if you don’t take the proper precautions such as warming up before commencing your sporting activity.
The most common sports injuries are strains and sprains, and are a result of:
- Doing too much too quickly
- Overestimating your fitness and flexibility
- Lack of preparation/poor technique
- Pushing your body too hard (over-training)
- Poor equipment, and accidents
Sports rehabilitation includes attention to the specific injury area to reduce swelling, improve range of movement, strength and flexibility.
The risk for injuries such as ankle sprains, knee injuries and hamstring strains can be reduced if a specific injury prevention program is used. As a bonus it may improve sporting performance as well.
